Marnie’s super power is fostering the whole child’s individual well-being and advancement. Her approach is to identify individual strengths within students, and help place them with educators where they will feel competent, confident and appropriately challenged. She matches families with services for education, tutoring, testing and evaluation, and other education-related needs

Marnie Lipnick Weinstein grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, attended Georgetown Day School (GDS) and studied at Brandeis University for her undergraduate degree. She went to graduate school for elementary education at Wheelock College in Boston, and has spent several years teaching elementary students in both Cambridge MA and the DC area.

  • At both School for Friends and at River School, she helped with student outplacement and wrote recommendations, with the goal of matching students to schools that would optimize the environment for the individual child academically, socially and emotionally.

  • At GDS, she taught kindergarten for several years and then worked on the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten (PreKK) admissions team. She played an integral role in creating the assessment tool currently used for admissions visits. Along with helping develop the assessment for PreKK, Marnie met with and assessed the PreKK applicants on their play visits, paying close attention to their academic, social and motor development and meeting with admissions to report on students strengths and weaknesses.

  • At River School, as a pre-K teacher in an inclusive classroom that included students with hearing loss, cognitive and physical delays mixed with gifted and talented students, Marnie created curriculum targeted at teaching to the whole child, using a thematic curriculum to meet the needs and interests of students on a broad spectrum.

  • She has led multiple professional developments for school staffs topics ranging from the value of diversity in schools, to teaching teachers how to connect to parents, to how to ensure that students are shining and that their passions are ignited in the classroom

  • At Bethesda Elementary, she provided academic support for students struggling with math and reading, and she has tutored students ages 4-10 in all subject areas to provide support and expanded learning opportunities for gifted and talented students.

  • At Beth El Preschool Marnie taught enrichment courses in Early Literacy to rising kindergarteners to bridge the academic gap between preschool and the new, rigorous academic demands of some kindergartens.

  • Outside of formal roles at schools, Marnie has advised several clients on getting 504s and IEPs in Montgomery County and DC to make sure students’ learning needs are being met in public schools.

  • One of her favorite projects over the past few years has been developing cooking classes for children ages 4-8 where students “put down their pencils and pick their chopsticks,” developing motor and academic skills in fun and productive ways.

Marnie lives with her husband, 3 children and golden retriever, Billy, in Bethesda, MD. She brings her own experience as a parent of 3 very different children to facilitate making great choices for children and families.

Marnie is an outstanding educator, dedicated to innovative instruction that reaches all children making learning fun and enjoyable. I have no doubt that she will be able to use her skills and expertise to help children and their parents select schools.
